May 31 — Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression
Since 1997, by decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, victims of political repression are commemorated annually on May 31 in our country.
On this day, the entire nation remembers our compatriots who became victims of political repression. Kazakhstan knows what political repression is: specifically, our country went through the harsh times of forced collectivization, three famines, the great terror of the Stalin period, the tragedy of deported peoples, persecution during the stagnation years, and now well understands the value of the Independence we have today.
